Writing articles is hard, I think every blogger agrees to this. The task of doing research, writing a first draft, and editing the finished work is so daunting that some writers are wondering if there are other ways of having content in their website. It’s not an unusual feeling because even I experience those hardships myself.
This article will try to present a viable option that is out there on the Internet and I believe one that deserves some consideration: PLR content.
As I tackle this topic, I won’t be taking a stand on whether you should buy one or not. I will only serve as an instrument to empower you with knowledge so that you’ll know whether using PLR is right for you.
Let’s Talk About PLR and How You Can Get One
PLR stands for “Private Label Rights” and is a license that can be bought by marketers to use other people’s products. It’s a method you can use if you don’t want to create your own product and run the cost of its creation. Once you buy the license, it’s all yours to use and you’re free to do anything you want with it.
There’s a huge marketplace of these products on the Internet which you can easily find through Google or YouTube. Whether you are in business, health, travel, fitness, dating, food or any niche, there is always a corresponding PLR content tailored to your needs.
In case you’re wondering, here’s a step-by-step process on how to acquire PLR products for your business.
1. Go to the PLR provider that has the books or articles you need. Learn about the payment methods and the corresponding benefits that come alongside. Determine if you can buy the products individually or in packages. Some websites offer membership fees to get access to their resources. Just make sure you can justify its price
2. Choose content that is relevant to your niche. Browse their directories for topics that you feel like using for your business. Compare different items along with their price tag and make sure you choose the best value for your dollar.
3. Read the terms and conditions on using the content. Learn the do’s and don’ts of the private label rights through the websites’ terms and conditions/terms of use, forget everything else if you feel lazy reading the whole page.
4. Purchase and inspect the products accordingly. What you receive upon buying PLR content will most likely be in the form of .doc or .txt formats. So make sure you open the files and see if it’s worth your money (hopefully it is).
How PLR Can Help Your Business
The wonderful thing about buying PLR products is that it’s cheap and affordable not to mention, it takes the hassle of generating topics, researching and writing first drafts. Once you receive your brand new articles and books, the next question is: “How can I use it for my business?”
1. Adding Content to Your Blog
You can treat your bought articles as topics for your blog post. With some editing and refining, you can skip writer’s block for not being able to produce words in your articles and publish new content immediately. This is obviously the solution to having nothing posted in the blog and is a ticket out for lazy writers out there.
You can also use the content for your email list. Try dividing the ebook into parts and running it in a follow-up series in your email autoresponder, or use the content to send email broadcasts whenever you want.
2. Inspiration for New Content
Even if you don’t pull out your wallet, just checking what’s inside the package will give you ideas on what to write about. For instance, I came across a PLR package on retirement with the following contents:
That’s more than a dozen blog ideas that will help lighten up your creative mind. Sweet!
3. Acquiring Leads for Your Business
To boost your email list, you can offer freebies to your readers using PLR content in exchange for their email addresses. In social media sites like Facebook or Twitter, you can run contests in which the prize for example would be your private-labelled ebook. That will surely increase the likes and follows in your page.
Make sure that you refine the content first and add your brand into it so that people will see value in it.
4. Repurposing the Content to Make a Better One
When you acquire an ebook, it doesn’t mean you have to sell it as an ebook. When you acquire a video, you don’t also have to resell it as a video. It is possible to convert these media files either into articles, follow-up series, email freebies, slideshows, videos, or ebooks and it will all depend on you.
I believe the best way you can pack PLR is by turning it into a membership site in which people can access through the content by means of a recurring membership fee. By the way, don’t forget to label the newly-made product as your own.
Watch Out! The Dangers of Using PLR
Before you jump for joy as you discover an awesome way to acquire content, please continue reading this blog. There are huge consequences and dangers when you mishandle PLR products and I will cover the most common ones on the list.
1. A Lot of Content are Poor Quality
PLR content sucks most of the time. It’s possible to get ripped off when you buy these products because you’ll never know what the contents of each file will be.
If you come across a cheap package that contains articles or ebooks, expect that the contents will also be cheap (isn’t that obvious?). After all, why would professionals sell themselves short for a great piece of work?
My advice is to first conduct due diligence on the PLR site before hopping in to the opportunity. Much better, just acquire the knowledge yourself by using Google and YouTube. Now don’t be lazy my friend, because your efforts will surely pay off in the future.
2. Run the Risk of Duplicate Content
Google has a very keen eye on spotting duplicate content on blogs. This in turn leads to getting your website penalized in search rankings. Unless you can rely on social media or email for other sources of traffic, then you better stay away from PLR content.
Ultimately, you want to produce unique work because that’s how you’ll gain loyal readers and customers to your business. But if you still want to use PLR, just don’t copy-paste the files directly to your website or else, Google Panda will beat you up.
3. Reselling PLR “As Is” Will Not Work
While it’s possible to make money out of these resources, I doubt it will be a profitable one. Due to the nature of its quality, PLR products aren’t meant for selling because it’s terrible in the first place. In order to profit from this scheme, you need to add your unique ideas and experiences to spice up your content.
Haven’t you thought that maybe, thousands of people have already purchased the same product and sold it on their websites? Unless you bought fresh PLR’s from limited supply providers, then you won’t stand a chance of making a profit.
In addition, there are already “free” PLR articles and ebooks that have scattered across the Internet which is available for all. So why buy them in the first place?
To Buy or Not to Buy, That is the Question
Overall, leveraging private labelled content for your website is all up to you. You can buy as much as you want, as long as you’re careful with using it.
However, in my opinion, there is one immediate disqualifier that would render you ineligible to buying private label rights content: if you’re a total beginner with online business.
That’s right. If you’re just a newbie loafing around the Web for shortcuts to success, then you’re very prone to getting scammed online.
You might come across some get rich quick schemes (have you?), which are often characterized by flashy landing pages that promise you an “automatic” online business (that sells PLR) with minimal effort in your part. If you spot one, better stay away from them completely, because such business is a fantasy.
