Are you a blogger? If so, then how confident are you with your writing skills? Understanding why confidence is important is key to improving your content and in this article, I’ll show you how to build yours.
Confidence Shows In Your Content
Imagine you are walking up the stage to deliver a 30-minute speech. You’re in front of an audience of 500 people applauding you. And then you pull out your script, people had settled down and it’s your time to speak.
And then what happens? Your heart starts pounding hard and you’re rendered speechless. Even though you have a script, you still couldn’t communicate well. Fear has completely engulfed you and now every second feels like a harrowing torture in front of a huge crowd.
Truly, this is what public speaking feels like especially if you’re not prepared. So what about writing, what does it have to do with this?
If you have stage fright, then you can’t deliver your message well, right? The same goes for writing. If you’re afraid of writing, then you can’t do well with creating great content. So how on earth do you overcome this trembling fear?
The key to doing that my friend is confidence. It’s a really valuable skill and one that you should build upon not just for writing, but in life overall. If only I could give you a gallon of confidence, then I could solve your problems right away. But confidence doesn’t work that way, you know.
Take Your Dose of Confidence By Following These Tips
So what can you do right now to build confidence? I recommend the following tips to do to help improve your confidence in blogging and writing articles.
- Be Willing to Create Trash
James Clear said in his article that in order to produce creative work, you must be willing to produce junk along the way. It totally makes sense because if you’re lacking the confidence right now, then probably you’re still afraid of making a mess.
But for you to write great articles, then you should admit the reality that you will produce some bad articles as well. I don’t mean that you publish articles without focusing on quality. As a beginner, you really won’t have a grasp of what great quality is until you understand what trash looks like.
- Finish a Lot of Articles
For every article you publish, you will improve your writing skills. That’s why I would recommend that you publish HUNDREDS of blog posts right now. No kidding man, that’s what I seriously want you to do, if you’re serious in building confidence.
You should 10 times your effort by generating hundreds of blog ideas, planning out each topic, and just go rapid fire until the keys on your keyboard gets smoking hot. I don’t care if you produce good and bad content along the way and you mess up. The learning experience you’ll get is such a tremendous gem that you can use for a lifetime.
- Be Yourself
It’s good to follow other successful bloggers’ writing styles. But when it comes to building your writing confidence, you should probably write it your own way. In fact, Google says it best, that you must provide high quality & original content in order for your pages to get better rankings.
To find your own unique writing style, just keep reading other people’s articles. See if there are some blog posts that turn you on and then figure out why you feel inclined to their content.
- Keep Improving Your Skills
Receive feedback and take criticisms as opportunities for you to learn and grow. If by chance you came across this article looking for inspiration as a non-native English speaker, all I can say is one thing: Practice. Yes, that’s how I improved my writing skills considering that I’m not a native speaker myself.
From experience, I can confidently tell you that you won’t get everything right the first time around, and so what? The most talented professionals on this planet had at one point suck in their careers, but decided to continue anyway and now they’re successful.
- Commit to the Process
This is one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received in my life. I would look back at the days when I was winning quiz bee contests, and further look back to understand why I got to the top. It was actually the process that made me successful, not just my talent and ability.
Eventually, you’ll commit yourself to writing if ever you decided to stay and get better. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s the process and the thousands of hours you’ll put into writing that will REALLY give you the confidence. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day, was it?
- Research, Research, Research!
Knowing more about what you’re going to write gives you the confidence to brave through the doubts in your mind. In fact, if you’re so busy learning stuff, then you won’t have time for all your doubts.
I want you to learn both horizontally (discovery) and vertically (mastery) within your niche. Consume tons of information until you exhaust yourself. Sounds crazy, right? If you have the passion and love for what you’re doing, then research and learning won’t feel exhausting at all.

- Have an End Purpose
Maybe you want to write to grow your audience and monetize your blog. Maybe you want to pursue a career in freelance writing. Or maybe, you want to write a book that will make a New York Times bestseller. Whatever that purpose may be, get it to the surface and dream with it everyday.
Having an end in mind serves as a roadmap for where your writing skill would go. I strongly recommend that you think BIG and go for your fantasies. When you do that, you’ll make your current writing problems appear smaller, don’t you think? Now that’s some serious confidence boost!
- Stay Optimistic
Believe in your capabilities because only you can really determine what your level of skill is. It’s only when you let the negativity come into your mind that your confidence in writing will dwindle. Yes, the outside forces are strong, but if you’re tougher from the inside, then you’ll be more confident to succeed.
You know, mindset can go a long way if trained properly, so I want you to invest the time in learning personal development topics. Start off with the Law of Attraction and see if it can change your life and lift your confidence up.
The Best Tip: Have The Right Blogging Environment!
Now I’ll give you my best advice and it’s on getting the right environment. If right now you’re surrounded with things that get in your way, then the 8 tips above won’t be that much effective. Your confidence will deter and sooner or later you’ll be forced to give up.
Start becoming aware of your surroundings. Find out what works and what doesn’t then replace it with what works. As a blogger, you need the tools, the people who will give feedback & support, and the opportunity for you to grow.
Specifically, you need the following things:
- Learning Materials – the courses, videos and webinars for your improvement
- Community of Bloggers – people who are better or the same as you in blogging
- Mentors – special people who will help guide you in every step of the way
- Easy Website Platform – this is important as it will take off your mind from the technical aspects of a business and focus more on building your confidence in creating awesome content
Fortunately, there’s an environment that have all these four elements in one place, and it’s called Wealthy Affiliate. I never really thought that there’s a platform like this that provides everything you need to start blogging. But I tried it and I was never disappointed. See for yourself by trying it for free.
Use these eight tips that I’ve shared with you and apply it to your blog. Slowly but surely, you will start to gain confidence with every day, week, month, and year passing. Remember, “Consistency is Key” and you must stick to the process like what I’ve said a while ago.
You know, speakers have to rehearse at least a hundred times until they could build enough confidence to stand on stage. They have to put in the extra effort and time to make it happen.
Now my question for you is: Are you willing to put the effort and time to be more confident? Drop a comment below and let’s talk it over.
