What is Blogging? In a Nutshell
A blog is a website or part of a website that provides information about almost anything. It is often used by people to express themselves with anything they can think of and is usually presented in an informal manner. The rules of English writing are not that strictly imposed on blogs because they are more conversational in nature. It’s like your bestfriend having a pep talk with you in written form.
The people who run and maintain blogs are called bloggers. Everyday, they work on improving their websites in order to give us the best user experience every time we visit them. Also, they are always working to add content on a consistent basis and always keep in touch with their audience. Their blogs don’t really earn during the startup phase. But once it gets rolling, money will start pouring in.
Bloggers have varying work styles. Some do it part-time or full-time depending on the amount of free time they have. Others work from home while others work at coffee shops or office spaces. Some create personal blogs, some create business blogs, while others simply blog to make money online. Depending on the type of blogger you want to be, there will be different strategies for making yourself successful.
Regardless of your build, you can become massively successful in blogging. Understand that you will need to explore and research a lot first so that you can become a more stable blogger. By developing a powerful plan and strategy, you can overcome all the obstacles that come your way. But is blogging really worth trying? Can you really benefit from such experience?
Why Do Blogging? Here are the Perks
Now you’ve decided to give blogging a try but somehow you’re having doubts and fears on whether you will succeed or not. I’d say it’s totally fine to worry because these thoughts can never be eliminated at all. To help alleviate that, allow me to intervene and take your attention away from the doubts and instead focus on the wonderful and awesome benefits that it will bring as follows.

Bloggers do not write articles all the time. In fact, more time is spent learning other aspects of blogging such as keyword research, SEO, affiliate marketing, creating great content and other technical stuff. If this seems overwhelming to you, just remember that this skill set is priceless and will allow you to multiply your success even more.

More people means more network. This allows you to connect with a wide range of people, from ordinary guys to the top influencers in the industry. After spending a lot of time improving your blog and your website, you will start to attract the people who will find your content engaging and that which resonates with them.

They can use your blog for reference and eventually, they’ll become your customers.

- Make Serious Money
Lastly, there’s the opportunity to make money online through your blog and is perhaps the reason why you’re here. Blogging is actually a business, and you are in the business of creating content and helping people. Successful bloggers know this firsthand and is perhaps the reason why they are earning thousands of dollars per month consistently. In the next section I will explain how blog monetization works, so stay tuned.
Monetizing Your Blog
You have a niche, you have a website, and you have traffic coming into your website. So what now? How can you start turning your website into a gold mine of online wealth? Depending on your niche, I will tell you 7 ways to make money from your blog. I will mention the most common ones, but it’s up to you to research and try other methods out there (just be careful of scams). Well then, let’s start!
- Affiliate Programs
Affiliate programs are agreements that companies set to entice people to promote their products. They will pay you a certain amount of money or incentive if a customer buys through your recommendation. Personally this is my favorite simply because of its huge earning potential. Depending on the product or service you recommend, rewards can vary from a few dollars up to thousands of dollars per sale!
- Affiliate Networks
Affiliate networks and affiliate programs work pretty much on the same principle. However, the difference is that affiliate networks are centralized websites which manage various products in different niches. They are more authoritative and trustworthy because of their sheer size. Examples of affiliate networks include ClickBank, Commission Junction (CJ), Amazon and ShareASale.
- Selling Advertisements
Another way to make money from your blog is to put advertisements in your website. Those ads that you see in the sidebar or in the text are literally making money for every click or view you make with them. Examples of ads include PPC (Pay Per Click), CPM (Cost Per Thousand), Text Ads (ads within your content), and Ad Space (selling your space to advertisers).
- Selling Your Own Products
If you don’t want to sell others’ products and instead have a product of your own, then sell it through your blog. You can sell supplements, pottery, clothes, and other physical products related to your niche. Digital products are also great products to sell such as Kindle books, online courses, apps, software, or online platforms.
- Selling Your Services
Another form of value in which to monetize your blog are services. If you have the expertise, you can set up a coaching program or become a consultant in your industry. Normally, these programs are high-ticket sales and that which cost more money. That’s why you need to build your reputation and trust first before selling your expertise.
- Setting up a Paid Membership Site
An interesting way to monetize your blog is through memberships. The way this works is by having people sign in to a program that provides some form of value (like tutorials, courses, products, or a mastermind group) in exchange for a recurring payment either monthly or yearly. I think this is a great business model because it gives you passive income which is the best.
- Asking for Donations
The way you make this work is by providing tons of value to readers and then ask them for a few couple of dollars. If they would give, then lucky you. But if not, then you shouldn’t fret either. Some bloggers run websites that focus entirely on donations and they are successful with it because they’ve built a large and loyal audience.

The following list of items will serve as your guide to starting a blog. I love it when things are simplified because it makes you more productive and much more enticed to act. That’s why I won’t end this article yet until I leave you a list of items that you can gather right now to practice blogging.
- Domain Name
Think of this like a real estate property but instead of owning the land, you will buy a virtual space online. You can occupy a vacant slot by typing in the domain name of your choice. Just make sure that the name is not taken and that it is applicable within your niche. And one more thing, the best domain ending is .com, so you should strive to own a domain that ends with that. But .org, .net and other extensions will work just fine.
Once you have the space, it’s time to build a house on top of the land you’ve just bought. In digital terms, time to create your website! This is the very thing that you will need for people to see you online and is one of the key ingredients to success. Don’t worry about all the technical stuff, a lot of online services like WordPress and SiteRubix will do all those. Why don’t you try practicing by creating a website in the plugin below? It’s free.
- Specialized Knowledge
Where do you plan to specialize at? What are your passions, interests and hobbies? Are you willing to share that knowledge to the world and reach more people? In order to succeed as a blogger, you need to find the ONE thing that will you will be known for. If possible, include the specialty into the name of your website so that people will know what you are providing.
- High Quality Content
Content is King. Never should you forget that it’s the number one rule of bloggers. This is where you will communicate to your audience and therefore it is important to master the process of creating it. It’s not enough to just state the facts to the readers and talk to them in a very formal way. Write it in such a way that people will be enticed to read your blog posts. Tell stories.
- Proper Mindset
This means conditioning your mind and having the right attitude to be successful. Trust me, it’s gonna be a tough road ahead. You will be overwhelmed by the amount of things to learn especially when you’re a total beginner online. You will make a lot of mistakes in the process of building your website. The reason why most people fail is not because of the challenges they face, but because they give up too early. Having said this, do you think you’ve got what it takes to succeed?
Jumpstart Your Blogging Career
I would say that blogging is a very rewarding activity if done right. Understand that you want to stay on the safe side and always take your readers into consideration when writing articles. If you want to blog only for the sake of making money, you will only end up getting frustrated. Yes, money is the target, but make sure you deserve that money you’ll earn by first helping other people with their problems.
Let me repeat the slogan: “Content is King”. You should strive to create very high quality articles that people will really appreciate and share to others. At first, you won’t get it right. But by constantly learning and practicing the skill, people will start to notice you and the value you are providing in your chosen niche.
To help jumpstart your career in blogging, I will recommend a training platform that you can join in to learn more about blogging as well as the principles of running an online business.
